Thursday Tracks–Jarryd James, Tove Styrke, MYAMI, Wayfarer, Vanic, K. Flay, Mura Masa, Nao

I finally graduated college, folks! Which means more time to devote to my music blog. I have an interview for a secretarial position at a law firm on Monday (a job I was not seeking out at all), so I will let you know how that goes.

I have been having so many music adventures, which I usually update you all on when I post the Thursday tracks, but I don’t want to distract from the tracks, so I will be starting weekly posts to tell you about my musical adventures, the first of which will be coming out tomorrow!

Jarryd James–Give Me Something

The groove of this song is infectious, paired with some incredible harmonies. Welcome new Australian singer-songwriter Jarrdy James. In addition to being a solid song from the first note, the production was masterfully done by Joel Little, who has also worked producing Lorde and Broods, among others. The floor-stomping beat paired with a surfer organ sound gives it a vintage feel, but is modern at the same time with the catchy vocal riff.

Tove Styrke–Borderline

This catchy gem of a song is by Tove Stykre, a Swedish darling whose claim to fame is being a finalist in Swedish Idol (Sweden’s version of American Idol). Her latest LP, Kiddo, just dropped this week which you should definitely spin to hear her playful vocals, metaphorical lyrics, 80s synth-pop, and one-of-a-kind tracks. The grove in this song is vintage, but the attitude is modern and unpretentious, full of European female confidence.

Also, I got the privilege of seeing her recently, so here is a picture for you!

MYAMI–Soldier (produced by Wayfarer)

MYAMI is one of the first Australian ladies to enter the electronic music scence! She joins fellow Melboune native, produce Wayfarer, to make this somber electronic track, a searching song, contrasted with its hopeful melody. Her vocal ooh ays will definitely get stuck in your head.

Vanic x K. Flay–The Cops

I just can’t stop writing about Vanic and his innovative remixes. He has teamed up with the amazing badass rapper chick, K.Flay, again in this song which captivated me from the first distorted guitar strum-sounding synthensizer hit. It’s a cute love song, with a rebellious twist, which is vaguely dancable and makes me want to speed on a motorcycle.

Mura Masa–Firefly (feat. Nao)

A lot of amazing music is coming out of the UK these days and Mura Masa might be the most mind-blowing one. His EP is full of stunning, unique tracks, mixing hip/hop, electronica, RnB, rap, and a singer/songwriter feel. This song is my favorite track off of his Someday Somewhere EP, featuring the strong, candy vocals of Nao, who I wrote about in my last post. This song fits every mood I am in, which makes it a total win.
