Here are some new awesome songs to help you survive the cold weather. All 50 states in the US dipped below freezing temperatures on Tuesday, so we really need some tunes to chase away the winter blues. Tonight I had an impromptu dance party while no one else was home, in my four in high heels practicing for next time I hit the clubs in New York. The Robin Schulz and A-Trak songs were on the playlists. I searched some other countries’ top 40 charts for this weeks songs, bringing you the Robin Schulz and Birdy songs. Also, I listened to the Oh Wonder song literally 10 times on Monday night while chilling with my best friend. Music really does make awesome moments.
Robin Schulz (Feat. Jasmine Thompson) – Sun Goes Down
Robin Schulz may not be a name you recognize, but likely you have heard his haunting remix of the song “Prayer In C” by Lily Wood and the Prick, considering that it is the version being played on all the radio stations. While Robin Schulz may not have much of a name for himself in the United States, this song is currently #2 on Germany’s top 40 chart.
Marian Hill – Got It
Marian Hill is the name of this band, not the name of the lead vocalist as you might have guessed. Her name is Samantha Gongol and her partner in the duo is Jeremy Lloyd. They are both New York City kids. The live saxaphone and unprocessed vocals in this song make a pleasant combo with the subsonic club-ready bass and driving rhythm.
A-Trak (Feat. Andrew Wyatt) – Push (Chainsmokers Remix)
When three awesome artists collaborate together, this is the kind of masterpiece that emerges. Alain Macklovitch, aka A-Trak, is a Jewish man of Moroccan and Russian descent from the Frech-Canadian city Quebec. He acted as DJ/producer for this track with Andrew Wyatt, the frontman for Miike Snow, jumping on vocals. Then the Chainsmokers, the goofy yet talented NYC DJ duo (made famous from their obnoxiously catchy song “Selfie”) gave this track a bump-up with the remix. I cannot get this song out of my head right now.
Birdy – People Help the People
Jasmine van den Bogaerde, known by her stage name Birdy, is a British singer-songwriter, first made famous by her cover of Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love,” which she amazingly recorded when she was a mere 15 years old. This song is from that same album, recorded in 2011, but still ever so relevant. Her voice possesses such smooth clarity and maturity. Even though this song is three years old, it is #19 on Spain’s Top 40 chart, which brought it to my attention. Some things are just timeless.
Oh Wonder – Shark
From the very first piano chord, this song is captivating. The male-female vocal combination is perfect, riding above the vintage keyboard sounds. Oh Wonder is keeping a very low profile at this point–no one knows who they are or anything about them except for the fact that they have promised to release one song per month for the coming year. If all of the songs are as good as this one, we all definitely have something to look forward to.
